What is Duolingo Happy Hour?

Like traditional happy hours in bars and restaurants, the Duolingo Happy Hour means you get more for your money or time. Instead of getting your standard 10 XP for every lesson that you complete, you get a bonus of 5 XP on top, so that’s at least 15 XP per lesson completed during this hour.

It’s generally in the evening, and it’s open to everyone whether you’re a Super Duolingo subscriber or on the free platform. Usually, the Happy Hour XP boost happens around 7 or 8 pm in your local area, so if you want to get involved, make sure you time your Duolingo session for later in the day.

How Much XP Can You Gain During Duolingo Happy Hour?

During Duolingo Happy Hour you can add an extra 5 XP per lesson to the standard 10 XP. This means if you complete four lessons during Duolingo Happy Hour, you can bag an extra 20 XP for putting in the same amount of effort.

Depending on how much time you want to spend on Duolingo Happy Hour, you can add plenty of extra XP to your weekly account.

If you’re speedy and going through lessons that you’re comfortable with, you can easily complete between 15 and 20 lessons, so that’s a whole ton of extra XP. Who doesn’t love getting more reward for not having to do anything extra?

If you’re just using Duolingo to learn a language and aren’t too bothered about keeping your streak alive or getting bonus points then you might as well just do your Duolingo sessions on your own schedule.

Duolingo works best when you make a habit of it. If you’re more productive in the morning, then make a mental note to do your Duolingo lessons first thing.

If you’re a night owl, you might be able to time your sessions within Duolingo Happy Hour by coincidence. It’s all about creating a language learning schedule that fits your lifestyle.

If competition works to keep you on track, then Duolingo Happy Hour is going to be worth it for you and your language-learning journey.

When is Duolingo Happy Hour?

It varies a little bit so it’s not a fixed thing, but the Duolingo team tends to put the Happy Hour live between 7 and 8 pm. This is in your local time, so don’t worry it’s not like you have to account for time zones. It’s also not on a set day.

Sometimes it happens on the weekends, sometimes on a weekday, so you need to be on the ball and check into your Duolingo account every evening. This also helps you to keep your streak alive and gain even more XP bonuses along the way.

So, how can you use this golden hour of Duolingo goodness to boost your XP and get you flying up the leaderboards in no time? Here are some of our favorite tips to get the most out of Duolingo Happy Hour.

1. Time Your Duolingo Lessons

This is kind of a no-brainer, but to get the most out of Duolingo Happy Hour, you need to actually be active during Duolingo Happy Hour. You can get bonus XP in other ways or by doing extra lessons over your target daily XP level, but why not use it to get 50% extra XP on all your Duolingo lessons?

Leave your morning lessons behind and get more out of your daily Duolingo lessons by doing them in Happy Hour.

The best thing is that it’s after standard work and school hours so most of us are at home, chilling on the sofa, so it’s the perfect time to get your language learning in and build a habit out of using Duolingo.

2. Refresh Earlier Lessons

If you want a quick win during Duolingo Happy Hour go back through your language learning journey and refresh some of those earlier lessons.

It’s a quick and easy way to score more XP and get some much-needed revision. All that XP adds up and helps, whether it’s new content or old content.

Remember all those old lessons are the fundamental building blocks of the language so it’s always a good idea to go back and refresh so you can feel comfortable with the more intermediate and advanced levels.

They’re also a great way to build up your confidence and help you feel more proficient. That’s super important if you’re nervous or anxious about using your new language in public or with locals.

3. Use an XP Boost

So, there are a ton of great boosts and extras on Duolingo. A lot of them are only open to Duolingo Plus subscribers or they’re boosts that you have to buy in the Duolingo store, but some of them do come up from time to time on the free version.

XP boosts double your XP score and you can use them on other bonuses too. That means if you use your XP boost on top of Duolingo Happy Hour you get double bonuses. It’s the easiest way to bank extra XP that’s going to help you shoot up the leaderboards. Maybe even get you into Duolingo’s Diamond League.

A word of warning, your XP boosts only tend to last 15 minutes, so you’ll want to keep unlocking them and topping them up as you go. If you complete any crown levels or complete a few lessons back-to-back you can pick up some extra XP boosts.

This way, based on the fact you can do 15-20 lessons in an hour, the combination of four XP boosts and Duolingo Happy Hour, you can get up to 200 extra XP per week. That’s huge if you’re trying to get up the leaderboards and potentially score that number-one legendary spot!
