It is not possible at the moment to gift Duolingo Plus through a Duolingo Gift Card. I imagine that in the future Duolingo will add this feature so that people can give a Duolingo Plus membership as a gift to those who love learning languages.
For now, though, there are a few ways to go around this and create your own “Duolingo Gift Card” through other sources.
However, I must say before you do this that in most cases, Duolingo Plus is not worth the money. There are tons of other gifts for language learners though that they will definitely love! (Trust me, I handpicked these and I am a bit obsessed with language learning!)
I seriously would not be able to learn languages without italki and it is the BEST gift for anyone learning a language. You can send them a gift card for the best and cheapest language lessons online (usually $5-$9 per lesson), here’s how!
If you’re still set on gifting Duolingo Plus, here are the two possible ways:
How to Create Your Own Duolingo Gift Card
First, you’ll need to decide how many months of Duolingo Plus you’d like to give using your Duolingo Gift Card. Each month costs $6.99 and a year costs $83.99.
Using the two methods below, you can send the amount of money on a Gift Card that you’d like them to use to buy Duolingo Plus.
For example, if you want to give them 6 months of Duolingo Plus, you can gift them $41.94 on one of the following cards and they will be able to buy it themselves.
Of course, at this point, it’s their money so they could choose to use it in another way if they wanted to! There are other language learning apps that they could choose to buy or subscribe to instead.
Check out this book on Amazon about how to stay fluent in a language over time WITHOUT losing fluency, the perfect gift no matter what language they’re learning!
Apple Gift Card
If your language learner uses an iPhone, then you’ll definitely want to create your Duolingo Gift Card using an Apple Gift Card.
You can pay for subscriptions on the App Store using an Apple Gift Card, which is why you’d be buying it! I took a screenshot so you can be assured that your language learner will actually be able to use the card for buying Duolingo Plus:

Now, back to buying the gift card. The best way to do this is to choose to send it by “Email.” All you’ll need is your payment information and your language learner’s email address.

It gives you the opportunity to choose a cute design which will show up in the email.

Then, you’ll input the amount that you want to send. I put $41.94 since this is 6 months of Duolingo Plus at $6.99 per month.

All you’ll need after that is your language learner’s email address and your email address. You can add a personal message that goes along with your super cool Duolingo gift card, and it says it will usually hit their email inbox within an hour!
And you’re done!

A Word of Caution: The only thing you should be careful of is if you buy a different gift card than the one listed above. Here is the list of gift cards from Apple and not all of them can be used in the App Store. Be sure to just use the one listed above and not one bought from an Apple Store itself unless you’ve made sure that it will work!
I also highly recommend gifting Benny Lewis’s book on how to learn a language in JUST 3 months!
Google Gift card
If your language learner uses an Android, then you will want to use a Google Gift Card instead as your DIY Duolingo Gift Card.
Google is slightly more complicated than Apple because it doesn’t sell the gift cards directly, you have to buy through a third party.
You can choose to buy in a store nearby or online.

For me, out of these choices, the best option to buy online is through PayPal. It’s the most reliable and easy way for sending money and gift cards.
If you aren’t comfortable with buying a gift card online, then the best option would be the nearest Walmart or Target. Plus, this way you can have a physical gift to give if you are going to a party or something like that!
As for buying the Duolingo Gift Card online, you would choose the amount according to the number of months that you plan to give to your language learner. (Remember, it’s $6.99 per month)
You’ll need their email address here.

After that, you will add the gift card to your cart and then go through with paying for it. This will require you to log in to your PayPal account. If you don’t have an account, I highly recommend taking the time to create one!
PayPal is a great backup for buying things online. I use it often when certain stores are charging fees for using a credit card but they offer no fees if you use PayPal.

If you’ve never used it, you add your credit cards or debit cards to PayPal and it charges your credit card. It’s basically just a middleman between your payment and the company.
After you pay on PayPal, you’re all set with to gift Duolingo Plus!
