Which Duolingo Plan Should You Get? All the Super Duolingo Plans Compared

As one of the most popular language learning apps in the world, Duolingo is beloved and trusted by thousands of members. If you’re thinking about upgrading from the free plan to a paid one, there are a few different Super Duolingo plans to choose from, it can take time to work out which one is right for you.

Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered with my complete guide to all the different Super Duolingo plans.

What Different Super Duolingo Plans Are There?

There are two different Super Duolingo plans to choose from – individual and family plans. They essentially do what they say on the tin.

You can either club together with up to five friends or family members (so six people in total), or you can opt to stick with a solo subscription package.

You can pay for the individual option on a monthly or annual basis, but the family plan is only available for annual billing. Obviously, if you pay for a year upfront it works out cheaper overall, but that’s only really the case if you know that you’ll be using Duolingo for the full year.

If you’re trying to improve your language skills for a set reason, like a vacation, and you know that you’re only going to need Super Duolingo for a short while, it’ll probably be best to just sign up for the monthly subscription.

How Much Does an Individual Super Duolingo Plan Cost?

The cost of an individual Super Duolingo plan varies depending on what country you’re in and whether you pay monthly or on an annual basis. The most common way to pay is on a monthly basis as it’s pretty rare to need the extra Super Duolingo features for a full year.

  • In the USA, Super Duolingo starts from $12.99 per month.
  • In the UK, Super Duolingo starts from £9.99 per month.
  • In Australia, Super Duolingo starts from $21.49 AUD per month.
  • In Canada, Super Duolingo starts from $19.99 CAD per month.
  • In the EU, Super Duolingo starts from €14.99 per month.

A lot of the time, this sort of equals out in price so you don’t gain much by paying in a different currency or using a VPN to change your location if you’re using desktop Duolingo.

The benefit of the individual Super Duolingo plan is that you can pay monthly. That’s a huge plus point over the family Super Duolingo plan because realistically, you’re not going to be consistently using all the features of premium Duolingo for a full year.

You might use it for a couple of months or you might just use the bonus features once in a while.

How Much Does a Family Super Duolingo Plan Cost?

Again, the Super Duolingo family plan varies based on where you’re located and how many people you split your plan between.

In the US, this plan costs a total of $119.99 per year for up to six people. This equates to either $9.99 per month for up to six people. This works out at $1.67 per person, per month if you’re sharing your plan with a maximum of five other people.

In the UK, it costs £89.99, but the catch is you can only pay for this package annually. This equals out to approximately £1.24 per person, per month, or £14.99 per person for the entire year.

That’s a huge saving if you can get the full amount of people. Even if you can just share this package between two people, it works out cheaper than paying for two lots of the individual package.

The massive downside is that you can only get the family Super Duolingo plan on an annual subscription. You need to work out if you’re actually going to get the most out of the Super Duolingo bonus features for a full year.

A lot of the time, we don’t stick with even the free version of Duolingo for that long, so make sure you think this through before committing.

Can You Share Your Family Plan with Friends?

Yes, you can share your family plan with friends. Despite the name of the plan, there’s nothing to say you can’t share it with friends, roommates, colleagues, or whoever.

As long as you can rely on them to pay their share, then you can club together with whatever group of people you want, up to five other people!

Are there Different Features for Different Plans?

It doesn’t matter which plan you opt for, all the amazing Super Duolingo features are exactly the same. Except for the billing restrictions, both individual and family Super Duolingo plans give you access to:

  • Unlimited hearts (for mobile only)
  • Unlimited legendary level attempts
  • Unlimited timed challenge attempts
  • Ad-free experience
  • Complete access to the practice hub
  • Personalized practice
  • Monthly streak repair
  • Super Duolingo app icon

So, choosing your Super Duolingo plan essentially just comes down to your budget, the amount of language-savvy friends you have, and whether you want a premium language learning subscription for a full year.

Can You Get Super Duolingo for Free?

Yes, you can get free trials of Super Duolingo for 14 days. Occasionally, Duolingo will announce coupons and vouchers that extend the trial period to a full month which is pretty cool.

If you’re not sure if you’re going to feel the benefit of Super Duolingo, I’d definitely recommend getting the free trial.

This is especially worthwhile if you’re going to commit to the annual family Super Duolingo plan. It’s a lot of money, so you want to make sure you’re actually going to use it!
