Should You Use Uber in Marseille?
While some people choose to use Ubers for airport runs or commuting, there are much cheaper and more efficient ways to explore Marseille.
Pedestrian-friendly
Marseille is a pedestrian-friendly city, with lots of the main sights and attractions within walking distance of each other.

Uber is Expensive
It doesn’t matter where you are in the world, Uber gets expensive quickly. Just like any other taxi-related company, if you rely on Uber, your trip budget is going to need to be a lot bigger.
Decent Public Transport
As a major city and one with a busy port, the public transport in Marseille is actually pretty good. You can use the metro or the tram to get around if you don’t feel like walking and tickets are super affordable.
When to Use Uber in Marseille
There are a couple of times where Uber can come in handy. Let’s check some of them out.
Public Transport Strikes
France is notorious for public transport strikes, and living here, let me tell you, it can be a pain. When the strikes are on, Ubers are a great, cheaper alternative to local taxi companies.
Instead of Local Taxis
If you need to get out to the airport at a weird time or you want to do an excursion out of the city and off the beaten path, Ubers are cheaper and largely more reliable than local taxi firms.
Instead of Hiring a Car
You do not want to hire a car in Marseille. Parking is a huge problem in the city which is why the public transport system is so popular. If you need to get somewhere by car, Uber is the affordable option.

Uber is always expanding to different cities so make sure that you check the Uber app to see which cities have it and which don’t.

We tried to use Uber in Marseille summer '23. It worked a couple of times, but many times we were not able to connect with a ride which really altered our plans. I would advise against anyone counting on using Uber in Marseille.
