I have never done one of these before, but I thought that maybe a few of you would be interested in how the heck I plan to make money blogging or how much I’m currently making!
This month has been our most successful month so far, and it’s not even over yet! So how do we make money blogging?
Right now, we have only 3 income streams that are consistently bringing in money each month.
1. Display Ads
The first is advertisements. This was the number one way I wanted to monetize the blog at first because it seemed a lot more attainable and somewhat more predictable once you get enough traffic.
My first goal as a blogger was to get to 25,000 as fast as possible in order to qualify for the best ad network (according to bloggers) which is Mediavine.
However, after 2020 wrecked our traffic and then Mediavine upped their requirements to 50,000, I realized that goal was going to be further away than I thought.
So I found a different ad network that had lower requirements.
You might remember me trying to push for 10,000 pageviews back in January (and thank you to anyone who helped!!). That helped me apply for Monumetric.
The main difference between Monumetric and Mediavine is the amount of money they pay according to your traffic.
This is called an RPM, meaning the rate per thousand visitors. Mediavine pays a lot more than Monumetric does.
I’ll get to how much this makes us per month in a bit!
2. Airbnb Affiliate
The second way we make money is when people book their Airbnb’s through the links on our blog! This one has been surprisingly successful (according to us lol) even during a pandemic!
3. Amazon Affiliate
The third way we make money is when people buy things through our Amazon links (like this one!)
It doesn’t even matter if they buy what I wrote about, just if they clicked on the Amazon link and then went on to buy something at all!
So that’s super exciting and it’s been fun to watch that grow every month as we get more traffic.
Although we’ve been blogging for almost 2 years (we started in May 2019), I am JUST BARELY starting to feel like I’m getting a hang of things.
It took a long time to figure out how to do simple things and then even longer to figure out how to actually make money.
So you’re wondering… how much do we make?!
November 2020 income
This is our BEST month yet and here is our income report for this month (even though it’s not over yet! I’ll have to update this later!):
- Monumetric Ads: $240.33
- Airbnb Affiliates: $295.20
- Amazon Affiliates: $55.97
Total (so far) for November 2020: $591.50
I’m really hoping that we qualify for Mediavine in December or January and that would probably at least double the amount of money we make from ads!

Thank you so much! It'll be 2 years in May since I started the blog, so it's definitely taken longer than I thought to make this much, but it's incredibly fulfilling to make money on your own through blogging! Definitely worth it!

I just found your blog on Pinterest and I absolutely love it! I am about to read through all of your tips because I am about to go traveling long-term by myself for the first time in January.
For what it's worth, I have been with Mediavine since February (and was with Monumetric for about 9 months before that) and my RPMs have not been THAT much higher with Mediavine (of course, some of that might have to do with COVID.) But good luck and I hope you are able to get into Mediavine soon!
